Summertime is a prime time for vacations. It’s also a prime time for residential burglaries. Did you know that you can set up a free vacation watch with the Harris County’s Sheriff’s Office (“HCSO”) for monitoring your home while you are out of town? The HCSO recommends submitting your request for a vacation watch 3-4 days in advance of your departure. Here is the link to request a vacation watch:

In addition to requesting a vacation watch, consider setting up light timers at your home to deter would-be criminals from breaking and entering. Additionally, having motion lights and nighttime landscape lighting can deter criminals as well. If you have a home alarm system that includes an active monitoring service, make sure that it is permitted through the HCSO as required.
